Subject stabs himself in the neck while being contacted by deputy.

On 1/19/2014 at approximately 12:35 pm, deputies were dispatched to the 800 block of McMinn Avenue, Santa Rosa regarding an unwanted subject at a residence. The reporting party called and said her son was at her house and she did not want him there. The reporting party said she thought her son was under the influence of drugs and she was afraid of him. The son was identified as James Somersall 44 years old from Santa Rosa.

Deputies arrived on scene a short time later and located Somersall sitting on the sidewalk in front of 831 McMinn Avenue. When the deputy approached Somersall and began talking to him, without warning Somersall produced a ballpoint pen which had razor blades taped to the pen and began slicing his own throat. After slicing his throat several times, Somersall threw the instrument into the street. Somersall sustained several deep lacerations on his neck. When the deputies approached Somersall they found that he had also cut his left and right forearms and wrists. Deputies began providing medical aide and requested an ambulance to the scene. Somersall was transported to Sutter hospital for medical treatment and was placed on a hold for being a danger to himself.

It is unknown at this time the extent or the seriousness of Somersall’s injuries.
