On February 11, 2014 at approximately 6:10 pm, Gilroy Police Officers responded to the 300th Block of Mantelli Drive for a report of a double shooting. Sixty-eight year old Martin Gonzales was pronounced deceased on scene. A second reported victim was transported via air ambulance to a bay area trauma center with alleged gunshot wounds.
With the assistance of officers with the California Highway Patrol and deputies with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department, a crime scene was secured and multiple witnesses were identified.
Gilroy Police Detectives have been investigating this incident around the clock to gather facts and to identify the responsible suspect(s). As a result of their investigation, they have identified and arrested Jerome Moore, a Gilroy resident, for homicide. Moore had been the second party transported to the hospital with alleged gunshot wounds. Moore sustained multiple puncture wounds that were initially believed to be gunshot wounds. A physical confrontation between Moore and Gonzales ensued prior to the shooting. Other male subjects may have been involved in the altercation as well.
Moore has been released from the hospital and booked at the Santa Clara County Jail.
This investigation is on-going as there are witnesses that continue to be interviewed. Several males were seeing running from the area during this incident. The Gilroy Police Department is asking the public for assistance with the identification of these individuals that may have been involved and/or were witnesses to the crime.

Details:
On February 11, 2014 at approximately 6:10 pm, multiple 9-1-1 calls were received at the Gilroy Police Department’s Communication Center regarding two gunshot victims on the 300th Block of Mantelli Drive, directly in front of Las Animas Park. Officers arrived within three minutes and located two male victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel initiated lifesaving efforts for victim #1. The efforts were met with negative results, and unfortunately the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by Gilroy Fire Personnel.
Victim #2 also sustained critical wounds and he was transported to an area trauma center via air ambulance where he is listed in critical condition.
Preliminary information revealed that some sort of physical confrontation took place prior to the shooting. Investigators are processing the crime scene, interviewing witnesses and evaluating a variety of leads. The victim’s identities are being withheld until proper notifications are made.
