Advisory

Snow Storm: Thursday, February 13th

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area, which is in effect from midnight tonight thorough 6AM Friday. This storm is forecast to bring heavy wet snow, some ice, and moderate winds.

The snow will develop late tonight and continue during the day Thursday, before tapering off late Thursday night. Snow accumulations of 10-16 inches are expected, with the potential for locally higher amounts, as well as one-tenth of an inch of ice. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 20s, rising to above 30 by afternoon. During the course of the storm, the snow may mix with, and/or change to, sleet and freezing rain.

Winds of 15-25 MPH, with gusts of 30-35 MPH, will create near blizzard conditions at times. Snowfall rates may be as great as 1-2” per hour. Visibilities will be limited to one-quarter to one-half mile at times.

The snowfall will make travel very treacherous on Thursday so please limit your travel to emergencies and critical matters. Your cooperation is needed to allow the North Castle Highway Department to clear the roadways. The rate of snowfall anticipated with this storm will make this job especially difficult. Please do your best to limit your travel.

Additionally, heavy wet snow may cause some weak, flat roof structures to collapse. Trees and power lines will also be susceptible to falling. Treat all downed power lines as live.

A warming shelter will be opened should the need arise. If you need this resource, please contact the North Castle Police Department at 914-273-9500.

Take the time to prepare for this snow storm now so that you can limit your need to travel during the storm. For updates you can go to: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/okx/
