TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Traffic Impacts Due to City Projects Starting Friday

The City of Los Altos has two separate projects ready to begin on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15.  As a result of each project, there will be some traffic impacts that residents should be aware of.

Sewer Project on El Camino Real Starts Friday, February 14

The Annual Sewer Main Repairs project is nearly complete on Springer Road.  The next phase of the project will take place on El Camino Real between Sherwood Avenue and Ortega Avenue.  One lane of El Camino Real will be closed for site prep work on Friday, February 14 and Tuesday, February 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Work will resume on Friday, February 21 at 9:00 p.m. and last through Monday, February 24 at 5:00 a.m.  Traffic control will be in place on El Camino Real between Sherwood Avenue and Ortega Avenue.  Southbound flowing traffic on El Camino Real will be reduced down to one-lane between February 21 and 24 – it is advisable to avoid the area if possible.  Additional traffic impacts include restricted left turns from Showers Avenue onto El Camino Real and from northbound El Camino Real onto Jordan Avenue.  Right turns out of the Whole Foods underground parking lot will be restricted, however, traffic will be allowed to exit straight onto Showers Drive and left onto El Camino Real.

Fremont Avenue Bridge Closed Saturday, February 15

In preparation for work tentatively scheduled to begin later this year on the Fremont Bridge Replacement Project, tree trimming, tree removal and other site prep work is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 15, 2014.

The Fremont Avenue Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. from Hazelaar Way to Miramonte Avenue.  Traffic control measures will be in place to detour traffic around the closure.  Additionally, light boards have been placed in the surrounding area to alert drivers of the upcoming closure.

The current schedule for each project is subject to change due to poor weather or other unforeseen conditions.  Questions about either project can be directed to the City of Los Altos Public Works Department, Engineering Division at (650) 947-2780 or [email protected]
