Suspect in Residential Burglary/Robbery was confronted by Homeowner and Apprehended by Windsor Police Officers...
On 02/08/2014, at approximately 3:38 AM, Windsor Police Department Officers were dispatched to an interrupted residential burglary that had just occurred in the 9400 block of Vinecrest Road in the town of Windsor. The officers were informed that the residents awoke to find a man inside their home. The male homeowner confronted the suspect in an attempt to detain him and a fight ensued. The homeowner’s girlfriend immediately called 911. The suspect was able to get away and run up the street while the homeowner gave chase. The first Windsor Police Officer arrived within a few minutes. The officer quickly located the suspect a short distance away as he was trying to flee the area in his car. The suspect, Robert Venoie Williams, 31 years of age, from Cloverdale was arrested for 1st degree Residential Burglary, Robbery, and Possession of Burglary Tools.
Detectives from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes Unit were requested to assist Windsor Police Officers. Detectives discovered that Williams broke a window to the victim’s locked garage to gain entry. Once Williams was inside the garage, he began to rifle through the female victim’s car; stealing money and credit cards. Williams also found several valuable antique items inside the garage and strategically placed them near the back door to the garage. Williams then made his way into the victim’s house through the laundry room door. The male victim heard noises coming from his laundry room. The male victim got out of bed to investigate the noises and that is when he discovered Williams inside his home. During the fight with Williams, the homeowner suffered a dislocated finger, which required medical attention at a local hospital.
At the time of Williams’ arrest, officers found the female victim’s cash and credit cards in his possession. Williams was booked at the county jail for violation of 1st degree Residential Burglary, Robbery, and Possession of Burglary Tools. Detectives will request additional charges against Williams for Assault and Battery. Detectives obtained a bail enhancement for Williams and his bail was set at $500,000.
