Advisory

Sonoma County Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Team (MAGNET) execute a search warrant in Santa Rosa and confiscate an AK-47 assault rifle.

On 1/30/14, around 5:00 PM, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Canine Units assisted the Sonoma County Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Team (MAGNET) in executing a search warrant in the 1500 block of Shelley Drive in Santa Rosa.

MAGNET, is a specialized unit to combat gang violence in our communities. The unit is currently comprised of Deputy Sheriff’s, California Highway Patrol Officers and Sonoma County Probation Officers. Various other law enforcement agencies within the county that cannot provide personnel to the MAGNET Unit assist in its funding.

In this particular case, information ascertained from a MAGNET criminal investigation led the MAGNET Unit to believe a local gang member was thought to be in possession of a high-powered assault rifle. For this reason, the SWAT Team and Canine Units were activated to assist in securing the residence and property, making it safe, prior to conducting a search for the assault rifle.

During the search, an AK-47 assault rifle was discovered in a vehicle that was parked in the driveway. The assault rifle was concealed in the engine compartment area of the vehicle. Several rounds of ammunition for a second firearm were located in one of the bedrooms of the residence. That firearm has not been recovered.

In addition, several pounds of marijuana and other items indicative of the sale of illegal drugs were located in the residence.

Arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of ammunition was Felix Fernando Carreon, a 38 year old Santa Rosa resident. Carreon’s bail was set at $20,000.00.

This investigation is ongoing and additional charges pertaining to the assault rifle and illegal drugs are pending.
