Road conditions on I-96 and US-31 in the Fruitport Township area are extremely poor. Roads are snow and ice covered and very slippery. Visibility is very limited due to continuous snowing and blowing / drifting.
Police are currently dealing with vehicles in ditches and crashes on the highways. Due to very limited visibility, police and wrecker drivers have experienced some very close calls today.
It is imperative that we have the cooperation of the public today in staying off the roadways. Each traffic incident on the highways puts everyone on the roadways at continued risk relating to crashes and secondary crashes.
Emergency responders have been placed at high risk today and throughout recent weeks due to the traffic incidents and weather conditions.
