Invest in a quality tailgate lock to prevent its theft! 
The Burbank Police Department has gathered information on a growing crime trend regarding the theft of tailgates from pick-up trucks. If the tailgate does not have a locking bed cover or tailgate lock, suspects can easily access the tailgate and remove it within a few seconds.
Tailgate locking devices are approximately $20 and fit around the right side pivot. These devices are designed to fit most pickup truck tailgates and do not inhibit the operation of the tailgate whatsoever.
Tailgate locks slow down the theft process enough that most thieves will move on and look for one that is not locked.
The addition of a tailgate handle lock, which is more expensive and model-specific, is also recommended as it adds another layer of protection and really delays the thief even more.
