On 1-17-14 at approximately 6:00 PM deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Sonoma Valley Substation responded to the 12100 block of Henno Rd. in Glen Ellen on a report of a death from a tractor accident. Upon arrival deputies found that a property owner hired a contractor to move dirt on a dry pond. The contractor was working on a large bulldozer tractor without utilizing a seatbelt and was accidentally thrown off the tractor when the front scraper hit the ground as it was traveling downhill. The tractor then ran over the victim and caused his death. The accident was witnessed by an employee who was also working in the area.
The victim is identified as a 38 year-old, self employed independent contractor from Oakland, CA. The Sheriff's Office is withholding his name pending notification of kin. The accident is being investigated by the California Department of Occupational Safety and Health as a work related death.
