Arrest made in driveway sealing scam.

The Giles County Sheriff’s Department has arrested twenty-four year old Christopher Scott Avery from Elkmont Alabama on charges of theft. Investigator Don Ward had been working a case where Avery had contacted an elderly female in Giles County and reported to her he had sealed her driveway and she owed him money for the unsolicited work. At a later time he returned and told the victim he had resurfaced the driveway again and she owed him more money. Both times the victim paid him in fear of what would happen to her if she did not pay for the unsolicited work.
A month or so later he returned and told her she owed him more money and he needed to fill out paperwork for a rebate to come in the mail. This time Investigator Ward was at the residence when Avery came to collect and he was subsequently arrested for two counts of theft over $500.00. This case is still under investigation and the Sheriff’s office feels there may be more victims. If anyone has had dealings with this person or paid for unsolicited work on a driveway please contact Investigator Don Ward at 931-363-3505. Avery remains in the Giles County Jail with bond set at $25,000
