On Jan. 10, 2014, Devin Kelley was scheduled to appear in court for a case involving an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred in Simi Valley. Kelley had been arrested in 2013 for the crime and was out of custody on a bail bond at the time of yesterday’s hearing.
When the case was called by the judge, Kelley was not present in court, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Yesterday, there were some confusing reports that suggested Kelley had escaped from police custody at the courthouse. This was not an escape by an inmate or arrestee. Rather, it was a case of someone scheduled to appear in court for a hearing, and he failed to do so.
Kelley arrived early this morning at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura, where he turned himself in for the outstanding warrant.
Kelley remains in custody in lieu of $140,000 bail.
