Low pressure moving from the Midwest into Eastern Canada will drag a cold front through the region Saturday, January 11, 2014 into Saturday night. This system will tap into the Gulf and Atlantic moisture to produce heavy rainfall Saturday afternoon and Saturday night.
Rainfall amounts from 1 1/2 to 2 inches with locally higher amounts up to 2 1/2 inches in and near the higher terrain north and west of New York City is likely to cause significant urban low lying and poor drainage flooding early this weekend. In addition to urban and poor drainage flooding flashy small stream and river flooding is possible. Conditions are also favorable for ice jam flooding.
