Road Conditions
Yesterday, when temperatures increased to the mid-teens, service was performed on Livonia-maintained primary snow routes including Schoolcraft, Newburgh, Levan, Ann Arbor Trail and Stark Road. The blading of the roadways and a heavy salt spread has made some incremental progress towards bare pavement. Salt is not highly effective at temperatures in the teens, it is ineffective in single digits and below. Wayne County has also salted many County-maintained roads in Livonia.
Today's hope for temps into the 20s is being backed off some to 20ish, and only reaching that level late in the day. Once again today, when temperatures reach the mid-teens by late morning, Livonia-maintained primary snow routes will be bladed and another heavy salt spread put down. Relief is on the way with temperatures rising through Thursday night. Livonia-maintained snow routes including primary and neighborhood secondary routes will be bladed and another heavy salt spread put down on Friday.
As a reminder, most major roads in the City of Livonia are maintained by Wayne County, including Eight Mile, Grand River, Seven Mile, Six Mile, Five Mile, Plymouth, Joy, Inkster, Middlebelt, Merriman, Farmington, Wayne (S of Plymouth) and Haggerty.
City crews maintain Newburgh, Schoolcraft, Levan, Stark and Ann Arbor Trail. Livonia also maintains half-mile roads such as Lyndon, West Chicago, Hubbard, etc., and subdivision streets.
