Advisory

Snow Removal From Sidewalks

The Rockford Department of Public Safety is reminding residents of their responsibility to clear sidewalks of snow within 24 hours of a snowfall, or risk being cited for failing to do so. The Rockford Volunteer Services Unit will be delivering letters this week to residents who have been falling behind in removing snow from their sidewalks. Residents will be asked to remove accumulated snow from their sidewalks or risk having to pay a fine and then pay the City to perform the service. Chief Jones is having the letters delivered to residents who “have failed to clear their sidewalks on a regular basis”. The Rockford City Ordinance requires residents to clear snow within twenty-four hours of the snowfall. Jones cites pedestrian safety and especially students walking to their bus stops as the primary reason for enforcing the ordinance.
