National Weather Service issues Winter Storm Warning from 6:00 pm Thursday, January 2, 2014 until 1:00 pm Friday, January 3, 2014.

Snow will continue throughout the day Thursday and intensify overnight into Friday morning. Total snow accumulation is expected to be 5 - 7 inches.

Near blizzard conditions are expected through the night Thursday into Friday morning with blowing and drifting snow. Visibility will be significantly reduced. Snow fall rates could be as much as one inch per hour.

Winds are forecast to be 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Temperatures will be dangerously cold. Thursday night: 5 to 15 F, wind chill -5 to -15 F. Friday high: 10 to 18 F, wind chill 0 to -10 F. Friday low: 0 to 10 F, wind chill 0 to -5 F.

Snow will have a moderate impact on road conditions for the Thursday evening commute and a severe impact on the Friday morning commute.

The Borough’s snow removal trucks will plow each street curb to curb during this snowfall. Residents are urged to make every effort possible to remove your vehicle parked on the street until roads are plowed sufficiently. Your cooperation will greatly increase our public works employee’s abilities to clear the roads of snow and ice in a prompt and timely manner.

Residents are also reminded that a Borough Ordinance prohibits the shoveling, placing, throwing or blowing of snow into or upon any street in Fair Lawn. Please do not shovel, blow, throw or place snow into or upon any street or you be subject to an enforcement violation. The Borough would also like to remind residents that for the safety and welfare of our residents, please attempt to clear snow around fire hydrants and crosswalks.
