A winter storm warning has been issued for the Mahwah area from Thursday 6:00 p.m through Friday. Snow is expected to develop from the northwest to the southeast late Thursday, then widespread snow is expected Thursday night into Friday morning. Snow accumulations from 4 to 8 inches can be expected along with areas of blowing and drifting snow. Winds are expected from the northeast at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Visibility is expected to be less than 1/10 of a mile at times late Thursday evening due to blowing snow conditions. Temperatures will be in the low 30's on Thursday then fall into the 20's and teens Thursday night. Wind chills can be expected from 15 below zero to around zero from late Thursday into Friday. Conditions are expected to occur that will make travel dangerous. Please stay off the roads once the storms start unless absolutely necessary. Remember overnight street parking is prohibited in Mahwah.
The wind chills and strong winds present an especially dangerous condition. Please take necessary precautions. Check on neighbors and the elderly.
