Chief Steven Marshall has an important message for you! Starting January 1, 2014 the Child Passenger Restraint law changes.
Starting on January 1, 2014 NH RSA 265:107-a, the law requiring that all motor vehicle passengers under age 18 use safety restraints has a change that effects drivers that transport children age 6 and younger.
The new requires that child who are under age 7 or 57 inches (whichever is reached first) are required to use a child safety seat. These seats are readily available and generally inexpensive at retail stores and on-line.
If you have a child safety seat and want to learn if it is an approved device please go to the Safe Kids NH web site at http://chad.dartmouth-hitchcock.org/injury_prevention/injury_center_programs_childhood_safekids.html.
You can get a list of upcoming child safety seat inspection events to have your device and installation inspected and corrected if needed.
The Washington Police Department regards child safety very highly. We will undertake a period of education and information when the new law goes into effect. Strict enforcement will be in place in the spring.
Contact the Washington Police Department with any other questions or for more information.
