Unruly protest crowd breaks the front glass door of the Sheriff's Jail Lobby.

On 12/10/2013 at approximately 4:50 pm, the Santa Rosa Police Department requested the Sheriff's Office assistance for a hostile crowd at the Santa Rosa City Hall. The crowd was at City Hall to protest in the name of Andy Lopez.

The crowd of approximately 80 to 100 people left City hall and then marched to the Sonoma County Jail where they assembled in the front of the Sonoma County Main Jail Lobby.

The crowd became unruly and broke the front window/door of the main jail lobby. Several Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the jail and were able to keep the crowd back so they could not make entry into the lobby. After giving a dispersal order the crowd left the jail and marched to the Sheriff’s Main Office to protest there. The crowd began moving the barriers in front of the Main Office but did not break the perimeter of the barriers. After approximately 20 minutes, the crowd self-dispersed.

During the protest Deputies observed several small children, ages from 4-10, in the crowd. They were among the subjects who were vandalizing the door and striking the windows with wooden protest signs and crosses.

The Sheriff’s Office made one arrest for a Violation of Probation and Obstructing a Peace Officer. The subject was identified as Jose Godoy, 24 years old from Santa Rosa. He was booked in the Sonoma County Jail after he was stopped leaving the scene in a vehicle.
