(Update) Traffic Collision: Bicyclist lost his life in collision with LASD Patrol Car in Calabasas, Dec.8

The men and women of the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department send our condolences to the family of Milton Olin who lost his life in a collision with a sheriff’s radio car in Calabasas on Sunday, December 8, 2013. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and friends.

Expert investigators with the Traffic Services Detail of the LASD are continuing their investigation into this tragedy. No conclusions as to the cause have been reached.

What is known at this point is that on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at approximately 1:05 P.M., a male adult bicyclist was traveling eastbound in the 22000 block of Mulholland Highway in the city of Calabasas. A lone deputy driving a sheriff’s patrol was traveling in the same direction. The car and bicycle collided and the bicycle rider lost his life. The deputy driving the patrol car was injured by glass and debris, treated at the hospital for his injuries and released.

It is the goal of the investigation to determine the cause of the collision and if any laws, regulations or policies were violated by anyone involved. Then, to take appropriate action if a violation did occur.

The serious nature of this collision requires a thorough investigation, which does take time.

Members of the Sheriff’s Department continue to respect and appreciate the rights of bicyclists to use the roads in accordance with state laws. Drivers of vehicles have the same obligations.
