HOLIDAY CRIME PREVENTION TIPS

Unfortunately, the holidays present many crimes of opportunity for burglars, muggers & pick-pockets. The following tips are given in the hope of everyone having a safer holiday season.
Shopping Safety
• Remove all packages from your vehicle, even your trunk.
• Don't overload yourself with packages.
• Park in well-lighted areas, as close as possible to store entrances. Be particularly aware of persons in the parking lot, especially near your car.
• Lock your car and make sure the windows are closed.
• Carry only the charge cards you will need. Don't carry or flash large sums of cash.
• Carry your purse close to your body. Men should carry their wallets in front or inside pockets.
• Be aware of your surroundings. Shop with a partner.
• Teach children to go to police officer/ security guard if they become separated from you.
• Don't hesitate to notify store security if you see suspicious activity.
• If you have to wait for a ride, wait in a busy, well-lighted place.
Home Safety
• Be extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you leave the house.
• Don't put large displays of holiday gifts in view of your windows or doors.
• Leave lights turned on both inside and outside your residence after dark. Criminals do not like bright places.
• Don't advertise what gifts you received by putting the boxes out on trash day. Break the boxes down or take them to the dump yourself.
Internet Safety
• Shop with familiar merchants or companies
• Keep passwords private; use letters & numbers in combination.
• Use a secure browser.
