The Parent Project classes are concluding on December 10, 2013. The classes were organized and facilitated by the Redwood City Police Department in collaboration with the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center, the Redwood City Police Activities League and the Office of Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. The classes were facilitated in Spanish to empower parents from Redwood City's Latino community. The participants worked very hard to achieve all of the Parent Project’s goals and objectives. Parents actively participated in the 10- week course learning new strategies, sharing experiences, role playing and developing a better understanding of the various juvenile services offered by our police department.
Parents who attended our classes learned to restore love and unity in their families, practiced how to confront problematic behaviors without arguing, learned to effectively respond to threatening, destructive and assaultive behaviors, improved their communication skills and learned new techniques to help their children improve school performance and attendance.
All participants have expressed very positive comments about their learning experiences and have also reported tremendous improvements in their children’s behaviors.
Teaching this course has served as a reminder to all of us who serve the community of the tremendous importance, responsibility and honor that we all have serving and helping its members.
