Four Homeless Deaths in Santa Clara County
During Extremely Cold Weather

Shelter hours expanded, donations for blankets and other cold weather relief items sought

Santa Clara County, CA. Four homeless individuals in Santa Clara County, all men in their 40s and 50s, have died during the extremely cold weather. Three of the individuals were living in San Jose, and one in Saratoga.

The National Weather Service predicts continued low temperatures and rain through the weekend. The County, including the Valley Homeless Healthcare Program and members of the County’s Medical
Volunteers for Disaster Response, is working with EHC LifeBuilders to reach the homeless population, the most at risk during this cold period. They are providing shelter location and hypothermia information, and encouraging those willing to relocate to seek one of the shelter locations. To support individuals who stay outside, blankets, disposable rain ponchos and socks will be provided.
