Bank Robbery in Santa Rosa 13-14726 – UPDATE #1 Suspect in Custody

Update:

On Monday, December 2, 2013 Stephen Long, a 63 year old man from Windham, Maine was arrested in Arcata, California in connection with a bank robbery that occurred there. The FBI, who also investigates bank robberies, notified the Santa Rosa Police department of the similarities between the suspects in the two robberies. Based on the information received, descriptions of the suspect and other evidence from the Santa Rosa Police Department investigation, it is believed that Long was the man responsible for the robbery of the Montgomery Village branch of Bank of America that occurred on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. The Santa Rosa Police Department will seek charges against Long for the robbery.

A photo of the suspect is attached. Anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or who has knowledge of Long and his activity while in the area is asked to call the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Violent Crimes Investigation Team at (707) 543-3590.

On Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at about 4:45 p.m. the Santa Rosa Police department received a report of a robbery at the Bank of America branch at 2420 Sonoma Ave.

Police went to the bank where they found that a single male suspect entered the bank and approached a teller. He produced a note stating that it was a robbery and demanding money but no weapon was seen.

The man, a White male in his 60s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with thin build, blue eyes and gray hair, took money from the teller and fled from the bank. A search of the area was conducted but the suspect was not found.

In addition to bank employees, there were about eight other customers in the bank. No one was harmed during the robbery. Detectives from the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Violent Crimes Team were called out to investigate the robbery. The investigation is on-going at this time.
