Fruitport Township Police Department has been responding to crashes and vehicles in the ditch throughout the day.
If you must travel today, plan extra time for your commute. Be particularly careful in those areas where crashes have already taken place, and please exercise extreme caution where emergency responders are out of their vehicles.

Remember to give yourself plenty of extra time when you have to travel in the winter. Slow down, and leave plenty of extra room between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained. Being stranded in the winter because your car is disabled can be dangerous. Make sure you have a strong battery, good tires and windshield wipers, and proper fluid levels. Keep your fuel level above a half tank.
Be prepared for the worst. Pack a winter emergency kit. Include items you would want to have with you if you were stranded miles from help during a winter snowstorm like: warm clothing, boots, gloves, stocking cap, jumper cables, flashlight with fresh batteries, flares, a shovel, kitty litter, blankets, snacks, candles, and matches.
Make sure your cell phone is fully charged before you travel. If you don’t already have one, consider getting a car charger for your cell phone.
