TIME: 4PM to 6PM

LOCATION: 5747 Rickenbacker Road, Commerce, 323-890-5500

SUSPECT: Jesus “Chuey” Canales

UNIT: Homicide Bureau

NARRATIVE:

On July 12, 2008, Victim Lucy Preciado was murdered in her apartment in Lancaster, California. The suspect, Jesus “Chuey” Canales, allegedly used a sword to kill the victim in front of her small children. Detectives originally tracked Suspect Canales to New Mexico, Texas, Mexico and El Salvador. The crime was covered extensively by America’s Most Wanted, which featured the young daughter’s “911” call.

On July 16, 2008, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Homicide detectives presented the case to the Antelope Valley Branch of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The Detectives also obtained a felony arrest warrant for Murder and Child Endangerment with a bail amount of $1,400,000.

Jesus Canales is a native of El Salvador, who was residing in Lancaster, California when the murder occurred. Homicide Detectives developed information that Jesus Canales may possibly be residing in a small town in Jalisco, Mexico. LASD Homicide detectives utilized LASD Major Crimes detectives, the United States Marshal’s Service and Mexican Authorities, in an attempt to arrest the suspect and return him to Los Angeles County.

On November 14, 2013, suspect Canales was detained by Mexican Authorities at the request of the U.S. Marshal’s Service. Mexican authorities expelled him from the country and released him to the U.S. Marshals.

On November 15, 2013, suspect Canales was flown to Los Angeles International Airport. Upon his arrival, Homicide detectives took custody of Jesus Canales and placed him under arrest. Suspect Canales was transported to Century Regional Detention Facility and booked for the murder warrant. Suspect Canales will be arraigned at Antelope Valley Superior court on Monday, November 18, 2013.
