Sheriff Reserve Lieutenant Lou Ferrigno, "The Hulk", trained with members of the Montrose Search and Rescue Team

On Sunday, November 10,2013, Sheriff Reserve Lieutenant Lou Ferrigno, "The Hulk", trained with members of the Montrose Search and Rescue Team in the Angeles National Forest. Team members present were Reserve Deputies Tim Berry, Kevin Hughes, and Mike Leum. Also riding along were two local high school students Garrett Leum and Boston Carvalho.

The first stop was the renowned "Motorcycle Corner" on Angeles Crest Highway at mile marker 56.5. This is location of hundreds of motorcycle accidents over the years. The camber, or angle, of the road changes once a vehicle goes over the white line which acts as the lane marker. Here the team set up a winch truck and got Reserve Ferrigno and the high school students secured in harnesses and lowered them over the side of the deadly turn. Once over the side, Garrett and Boston found a trove of motorcycle parts. Today's "prize" was a plastic side box off of a dual-sport bike which they found stuck in a tree. Hopefully, the former owner survived the crash which caused the box to end up being lodged in the tree.

After that the group went to Newcomb's Ranch Restaurant for lunch, where Ferrigno spoke to the public about the his work with search and rescue.

Over the course of the afternoon the group responded to two motorcycle accidents, but due to their remote location they were not able to render aid, as closer units handled the incidents. While driving down the hill in the afternoon, Leum and Ferrigno saw a lone United States Forest Service officer who had stopped 10 hunters to conduct a hunting compliance check. While usually uneventful, one officer dealing with 10 armed men can be tense, so the officer was very glad to get some backup. It was especially reassuring once the officer recognized one of the deputies there was Lou Ferrigno.
