Suspect arrested for attempted kidnapping and sexual assault of 15 year old girl.

On Thursday, October 31, 2013 at about 8:30 A.M., Ontario police officers responded to an attempted kidnapping of a child occurring in the area of Vine Avenue and Granada Court, Ontario.

Officers met with the victim (a 15 year old Ontario girl) and determined that as she walked (alone) north on Vine Avenue, the suspect approached her on foot and grabbed her chest. The suspect then tried to grab her a second time, but the victim fought back and ran away as the suspect attempted to pull her towards his nearby vehicle. The suspect then fled from the scene in his vehicle.

The victim, along with witnesses, provided a detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle, which included a license plate number. Witnesses also reported seeing a young child in the back seat of the suspect’s vehicle while he attempted to kidnap the child.

Although the suspect’s vehicle was registered to a residence in Mira Loma, Officers were able to utilize other records information to quickly locate the suspect vehicle that was parked to the rear of an apartment complex in the 1200 Block of Stoneridge Place, Ontario. Officers surrounded that complex and took the suspect into custody without incident.

The suspect is identified as 25 year old Jonathan Medina of Ontario. Medina is currently on probation for a previous battery conviction and was found to have an outstanding $10,000.00 battery warrant issued out of the San Bernardino County as well.

Medina was processed at the Ontario Police Department and later booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga for charges of attempted kidnapping and sexual assault of a child.
The victim did not sustain any injuries and did not require medical attention. The victim was not acquainted with the suspect in any way.

The young child seen in the back of the Medina’s vehicle (when the crime was committed) was determined to be Medina’s 3 ½ year old son. The son was found to be unharmed and released to his mother.
Medina’s vehicle is described as a faded maroon colored, 4 door, 1997 Door Dodge Stratus.

Although there have not been any other reports of similar incidents occurring in that area in the recent past, Detectives are asking for anyone with information about Medina or today’s incident to contact Ontario Police Detective Jeff Zeen at (909) 395-2744.
