(HOUSTON, TX) - The HCSO’s Law Enforcement and Private Security (LEAPS) program received the 2013 Matthew Simeone Award for Public Private Partnership Excellence.

The award was presented to Sheriff Adrian Garcia by the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) Foundation and the ASIS Law Enforcement Council at an awards dinner in Chicago, IL.

LEAPS was established in 2011 by the HCSO with the ASIS Houston Chapter, and the Associated Security Services and Investigators of the State of Texas (ASSIST).

Through LEAPS private security personnel attend an eight-hour, structured workshop at the HCSO Academy to enhance their knowledge in crime reduction, emergency preparedness, crime scene protection/preservation, and criminal trespass. The training programs have had a significant impact on reducing calls to law enforcement agencies and given security officers new tools to more effectively execute their duties and assist law enforcement.

The Simeone Award is presented to programs worldwide that demonstrate excellence in the advocacy, development, implementation, and practice of public-private cooperation and information sharing for public safety.
