OSS detectives assigned to Lakewood Station are investigating a carjacking that occurred on the 12400 block of Carson Street, Hawaiian Gardens on June 25, 2013, at approximately 1:50 pm.
The victim parked his truck in the driveway entrance of a local business and left the keys in the ignition. The suspect rode his bicycle past the truck, then returned and placed his bicycle in the bed of the truck, entered the driver’s seat and started the truck.
Realizing that the suspect was attempting to steal his truck, the victim ran back towards the suspect to stop him. The victim opened the driver’s door and struggled briefly with the suspect over control of the truck. The suspect drove the truck in reverse with the driver’s door still open and caught the victim, dragging him on the ground for approximately twenty-five feet. The suspect continued to drive in reverse, running over the victim with the front tire. The suspect drove away westbound on Carson Street and has not been identified or captured.
The 67 year old victim sustained a fractured pelvis, fractured ribs on the left side of his chest and minor bleeding around his brain. He was listed in critical condition and was hospitalized for a significant amount of time.
The victim’s truck was found abandoned and was recovered a day after the incident.
A surveillance camera from a nearby business captured the incident on video and detectives obtained still photos of the suspect from the video.
Detectives have exhausted all investigative leads and are now requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.
