Deputy Involved (Hit) Shooting Fairford Av. / Foster Rd., Norwalk LASD Homicide Investigation

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved (hit) shooting that occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2013, near the intersection of Fairford Avenue / Foster Road, Norwalk.

Detectives have learned that at about 4:06 P.M., deputies were on patrol in the City of Norwalk when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for traffic violations. The vehicle failed to stop and continued to drive Westbound in the 11300 block of Foster Road (at Fairford Rd.).

As the vehicle drove west, the suspect, a 23-year-old Hispanic male, tossed a black semi-automatic handgun from the passenger window.

The vehicle drove a short distance and quickly pulled over to the curb. Suddenly the suspect exited the passenger side of the vehicle at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was struck one time in the upper torso. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for his injuries. He is listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.

There were two other persons in the vehicle but they were not injured. They were detained for questioning as witnesses.

A loaded handgun was recovered from the parkway where the suspect had discarded it.
