SUSPECT ARRESTED IN CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE INVESTIGATION
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — On September 30, Sunnyvale Public Safety Officers began an investigation of a reported child sexual abuse that occurred at Belen’s Childcare, located in the 700 block of S. Wolfe Road. Sunnyvale Public Safety Detectives continued the investigation and subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect in the case.

On October 2, Sunnyvale Detectives arrested Jose Cristobal Velandria, a 68 year-old Sunnyvale resident who resides at the childcare facility and is a relative of the owner/operator of the business. Velandria is in custody and was arraigned on October 4 in Santa Clara County Superior Court on charges of sexually abusing two minors.

Detectives are continuing their investigation to determine if there are any other victims. Any parent who believes their child may be a victim in this case is asked to not question their child in-depth and to call Detective Mendoza at (408) 730-7130.
