UPDATE - Twin Peaks Pinnacle Search for missing hiker, Alois Krost

UPDATE - Monday, October 7, 2013 – The search for Mr. Alois Krost continues in the area of Pinnacle Trail in North Lake Arrowhead. Search efforts have been assumed by the Rim of the World Search and Rescue Team from the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station. Search team members along with search dogs from throughout the Sheriff’s Department will continue with training exercises in the area where Mr. Krost was last seen.

Throughout the past weekend and over the last six days, around the clock search efforts have been conducted for missing person, Alois Krost. Over 250 search and rescue team members covered a 3.5 square mile radius. Assisting the ground searchers were highly trained search dogs and aerial support including night searches utilizing night vision goggles and FLIR (forward looking infrared) equipment on the helicopters. Unfortunately, the extensive search efforts were met with negative results.

The Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the following counties and their volunteers for responding to the location to assist in the search: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura, San Diego Counties and personnel from the U.S. Forest Service as well as members from CA.R.D.A. (California Rescue Dog Association).

The Sheriff’s Department continues to ask for the public’s assistance. Anyone who has any information on the whereabouts of Mr. Krost is asked to contact the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station at (909) 336-0600.

On October 1, 2013 at 5:45 p.m., Krost became separated from his hiking party while hiking the Pinnacle Trail in North Lake Arrowhead. Krost who is visiting from Germany, is known to be an experienced hiker and hunter.

Krost was last seen wearing a light blue long sleeve shirt with dark blue denim jeans. He was also wearing a pair of light weight hiking shoes and has no other equipment with him.

A full Search and Rescue operation is now being conducted utilizing air resources, ground searchers and search dogs.
