Two Men in a Vehicle Survive a 200 Foot Fall Off a Cliff In Calabasas, #LASD
At approximately 12:50 a.m., on October 4, 2013, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Malibu Search and Rescue Team and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle over the side on Stunt Road (with an unknown specific location) in the City of Calabasas. The vehicle was found promptly because one of the victims remained in contact with one of the rescuers via cellphone.
The vehicle was located at the bottom of a 200 foot cliff, approximately 1.5 miles from Mulholland Hwy, on Stunt Road. The vehicle had careened 200 feet off a cliff, flipped several times, and landed on its roof, collapsing the passenger compartment.
The two male occupants, ages 18 and 21, residents of Encino and Los Angeles, respectively, miraculously escaped from the vehicle and climbed up the steep hillside, despite injuries and being told to stay at the vehicle to be rescued.
Both men were evaluated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Attached are photos from the operation.

Hiking/Camping is a fun way to get family and friends together to enjoy the outdoors, and to get some physical activity. However, you should always be prepared for the unexpected. You should tell family and friends what your plans are and provide a list of who will be going with you. There are over 150 members of the eight Search and Rescue teams of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. These rescuers were activated for over 450 search and rescue missions last year, making it one of the most active counties for search and rescue missions in the nation.
