LASD SCV Deps Rescue Woman from Burning Condo. 2 Deps, 2 Firefighters Suffered Minor Injuries in Mon Morning Blaze

On Monday, September 30, 2013, at approximately 2:45am, deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded along with the Los Angeles County Fire Department to the 26800 block of Claudette Street, Canyon Country regarding a multi-unit apartment fire.

When deputies arrived they saw a building fully involved. Deputies evacuated residents as Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived on scene. While deputies were assisting residents to leave, they discovered a female who was still inside of her burning condominium. The female was distraught and frantically searching for her sister who had already exited the condo. Deputies Sean Caples and Patrick Ince entered the front door of the burning building in order to get the female out safely. Deputy Caples stated, "I saw the fire. The fire was in the living room and balcony, and a female was trapped in the back area of the condo. We had to run into the apartment and get her outside. About 30 seconds later we could hear what sounded like propane tank explode. It was intense. We are glad everyone made it out ok."

The fire was eventually extinguished by the Los Angeles County Fire Department and no residents appear to have been severely injured. The two deputies were treated for possible smoke inhalation at a local area hospital. Two firefighters also suffered minor injuries while fighting the blaze.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson/Explosives Detail was notified and responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No further information is available at this time.
