Ramsey has lost another one of its hometown heroes to the horrors of war. United States Army Sergeant Timothy McGill was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan on September 21st. Sergeant McGill, a 2001 graduate of Ramsey High School, was serving in a Special Forces Unit at the time of his death. Sergeant McGill was a lifelong resident of Ramsey, served as a member of the Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department, and had worked for the Ramsey Department of Public Works between deployments. He served his country proudly throughout the world during his military service.

We must pause to remember and reflect upon the sacrifice of Sergeant McGill, who fought to protect our nation’s interests and preserve our freedom.

Sergeant McGill will return to Ramsey this Monday, September 30 at 12 noon. I would encourage all our residents, students and neighbors to line Main Street at 12 noon to honor his service and welcome him home for his final rest with his family in Ramsey. It will be a dignified and solemn procession, befitting a true American hero. As events surrounding Sergeant McGill’s wake and funeral unfold this entire week, you should expect delays and road closings throughout the Borough. We would ask for your patience and understanding, as Sergeant McGill’s family, friends, colleagues and fellow soldiers pay their final respects to their fallen son, friend and comrade in arms.
