Shooting occurs after suspects evade deputies in San Bernardino.
On Thursday, September 26, 2013, detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Specialized Enforcement Divison assisted the San Bernardino Police Department during a multi-agency saturation patrol/crime sweep. At approximately 7:43 p.m., detectives attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations in the area of 9th Street and Waterman Avenue. The vehicle failed to yield and a traffic pursuit ensued. The driver of the vehicle, Arthur Herrera, attepted to evade capture by travelling at high speeds through residential neighborhoods. The traffic pursuit concluded within the 1100 block of Belvan Avenue, in the city of San Beranardino.
While attempting to take the occupants into custody, one of the occupants began reaching within the vehicle; as though he was attempting to retrieve a weapon. A detective was forced to fire his handgun, striking the subject. The subject was transported to a nearby hospital, where he has been listed in stable condition. Arthur Herrera, 26, was arrested and booked at Central Detention Center, in San Bernardino, for Felony Evading (CVC 2800.2) and for having numerous warrants for his arrest.
