Monday, Sept. 23: Fire at Plastics Factory In Carson Deemed Non-Hazardous

During the late afternoon of Monday, September 23, 2013, a fire broke out at a plastics manufacturing plant in the 2200 block of East Del Amo Boulevard in Carson. Investigators are unsure what caused the fire that injured four people, including a firefighter battling the blaze. The injured were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation.
County Fire Inspector Tony Akins said there was initial concern when the fire reached a chemical located inside the plant; however, the chemical was discovered to be an irritant, not a toxin, and no hazardous fumes were created.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
