Simi Valley Man Arrested by LASD SCV Dets for Theft & Impersonating a P.O. - Large Amount of Weapons Recovered PHOTOS

On Thursday, September 5, 2013, deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a call for service at a local firearms manufacturer in Castaic (unincorporated area of Los Angeles County) regarding a theft that had occurred. The owner of the business told deputies that two brand new upper receivers, used to build AR-15 rifles, were stolen from the business. The investigation was turned over to detectives assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Detectives identified Jeffrey Edmonds (a 37 year old male from Simi Valley) as the man responsible for the theft and determined he had also identified himself as a sworn peace officer and a captain with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Detectives contacted the Los Angeles Police Department and notified them of this incident. Detectives learned that the badge and identification card used by Mr. Edmonds was counterfeit and he was not a sworn police officer.

After conducting an extensive investigation, detectives served a search warrant on Tuesday morning, September 17, 2013, at Mr. Edmonds residence located on Royal Avenue in Simi Valley. The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Major Crimes Bureau Fugitive Task Force who are members of the United States Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Mr. Edmonds outside his residence prior to the search warrant being served by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Detectives.

At Mr. Edmonds residence, detectives recovered the alleged stolen upper receivers along with numerous bullet proof vests, large quantities of ammunition, a large number of firearms (including handguns and rifles, and illegal assault weapons), ballistic helmets, a flash bang grenade, a smoke grenade, a sting ball grenade, and a CS gas grenade, along with a counterfeit LAPD Captain’s badge and identification, gas masks, and other tactical types of equipment.

Mr. Edmonds was booked at Santa Clarita Valley Station on charges relating to grand theft, impersonating a peace officer, and weapons violations. He is currently being held at the Inmate Reception Center in lieu of $250,000 bail. Mr. Edmonds is expected to appear in North Valley Superior Court in San Fernando on Thursday, September 19th 2013.

No further information is available at this time.

A booking photo of the suspect is not being released at this time.
