- Encourages bicyclists to position themselves safely in lanes too narrow for a motor vehicle and a bicycle to comfortably travel side by side within the same traffic lane.
- Alerts motor vehicle drivers of the potential presence of bicyclists.

Dual Buffered Bike Lane
- Provides separation between the bike lane and the motor vehicle lane.
- Provides separation between the bike lane and the parked cars to eliminate the potential hazard of the “door zone.”
- Vehicles may travel across the buffered bike lane to park and/or make right turns.
