San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dept Emergency Operations/ Aviation Division conduct rescue mission utilizing night vision equipment

On Saturday, September 7, 2013, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Twin Peaks Sheriff's Deputies responded to a Search and Rescue at Keller Peak after it had been reported that a female hiker was lost/missing. The female was missing for almost three hours.

Upon arrival, deputies immediately searched the area and requested the assistance of Sheriff's helicopter 40-King after being unable to locate the female hiker. The Sheriff's helicopter arrived on scene and after searching for approximately 30 minutes located the hiker using night vision goggles. The victim was standing on steep, rocky terrain and appeared she was lost and did not want to move. Due to the dangerous terrain, it would have taken ground personnel several hours to reach the victim. The Sheriff's helicopter conducted a night vision hoist mission and was able to rescue the victim. The victim was flown to Snow Valley and picked up by awaiting deputies. The victim reported while hiking, she had fallen between rocks, twisting her ankle - she became disoriented and lost. The female was returned to her family without further incident.
