RPD-Community Notification.

Early this morning on Friday, August 30, 2013 between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., there was heavy police presence in the area of the Zoo Woods just north of Riverside Brookfield High School. This was a situation where Lyons had stopped a stolen semi-tractor trailer northbound First Avenue at Zoo Woods. The offender got out of his truck and ran into the Zoo Woods on foot with police in foot pursuit. The offender was arrested and has been taken into custody.

At no time were any students at Riverside Brookfield High School in danger. Riverside Police set up a perimeter in the area of the Zoo Woods to ensure that the offender, who was fleeing on foot, fled in a northeasterly direction. The offender was quickly taken into custody.

This was a very quick moving situation and was over within minutes. Once again, I want to reiterate that at no time were any students or staff at Riverside Brookfield High School in danger. Riverside Brookfield High School staff was advised of the situation immediately by Riverside personnel. The apprehension in the criminal case is the jurisdiction of the Village of Lyons and is being handled by the Lyon's Police Department.
