Parks Bureau Detectives arrest man for Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer and Police Equine Partner at the Emerald Necklace Bike Trail at 11650 Thienes Avenue, South El Monte

Parks Bureau Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Departments arrested Victor Ivan Rivera, Male, 23 years-of-age, for Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer and Police Equine Partner on August 29, 2013. This is the culmination of an investigation into the assault that occurred at the Emerald Necklace Bike Trail on August 27, 2013.

While a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Parks Bureau Mounted Enforcement Deputy was riding his police equine partner in the riverbed area at the Emerald Necklace Bike Trail they approached the suspect who was standing next to his vehicle to investigate possible narcotic activity. When they approached the suspect and a passenger they jumped into the vehicle, started backing up and then drove forward directly at the deputy and his horse named Shooter. The deputy rode quickly out of the way to prevent from being hit by the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect fled away in the vehicle. Neither the deputy nor horse was injured.
After further investigation suspect Rivera was arrested at his home in El Monte and booked at Temple Sheriff’s Station and is being held on a bail of $50,000.

The Emerald Necklace Bike Trail is adjacent to the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area located at 750 Santa Anita Ave South El Monte.
