On Tuesday, August 26, 2013 at 2:25 p.m., a female juvenile reported that while she was walking to Hauser Junior High, a vehicle slowed down to ask her directions at the corner of Delaplaine and Woodside. The juvenile was walking southbound on the east side of the street towards the school. The driver asked for directions and then, during his brief attempt to get the juvenile's attention, he mentioned the word candy to her. The female juvenile ignored the suspect and continued to walk southbound towards the school. As she continued to walk, she felt that the driver was continuing to stare at her for approximately 20 seconds before leaving northbound on Woodside.

The juvenile described the suspect as an unknown male, in his 40s, black glasses, dark complexion with short black hair wearing peach-colored business attire. He was driving a black four-door Toyota passenger car. At no time did the driver exit his vehicle or make any physical contact with the juvenile.

Once the victim arrived at the school, she immediately reported it to the assistant principal who then contacted the police department. The police department then searched the area for the vehicle but was unable to locate it.

There have been no other reports of a similar vehicle attempting to speak to juveniles in the area of any Riverside schools. While the school was not in session on Tuesday, the juvenile was walking some needed paperwork and waivers for after-school activities to school officials.

The Riverside Police Department is continuing deploying additional personnel to the drop-off and pick-up times in the area of District 96 schools.
