UPDATE: Attempted child abduction unfounded

Yesterday, just before 8:00pm the WCSO received a call of a suspicious person in the 7400 block of Knollwood in Ypsilanti Township. The 7 year old that reported the incident described being chased by an unknown suspect as he attempted to abduct her. After investigating further, detectives have identified several inconsistencies in the report. Additionally, detectives were able to locate a neighbor from the area that witnessed the young child at the time of the alleged incident. At this time there is no information to substantiate that an attempted abduction took place. The investigation is no longer active and family members are understanding of that decision.

In situations with allegations such as this we have an obligation to notify the community, but make every effort to educate and seek assistance without unnecessarily alarming residents. Although unfounded, this incident allows us the opportunity to talk with our families about staying safe and the seriousness of making a report such as this.
