The Fayette County Sheriff's Office has been made aware of a phone scam where citizens are called by a male advising he is a Georgia Department of Transportation law enforcement officer. The citizens have been threatened with arrest if they did not pay fictitious fines for traffic violations. The caller sounds very official and even continues with his false identity when contacted by law enforcement.
We would like to remind everyone not to give out personal or financial information when you are not sure who you are communicating with.
