Rollover Semi Shuts Down Southbound I-65
Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 8:44 a.m. on I-65 southbound south of the 178 exit (that is the State Road 43 exit), a semi cut a tire and rolled onto its side closing both lanes of the interstate.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Mike Krueger has revealed that a white 2004 International owned and driven by Edward W. Simpson, 59 years old from Beecher, IL was pulling a trailer containing brake pads. Simpson advised he ran over a piece of metal in the roadway which cut his left front tire causing him to lose control. The semi started to skid and then rolled onto its left side across both lanes of the interstate. Simpson refused treatment at the scene.
All lanes of I-65 were closed for approximately two hours to remove the semi off the roadway. The left lane is now open while wrecker crews upright the semi. Both lanes should be open within the hour.
Assisting at the scene were several troopers from the Lafayette State Police Post and troopers from the Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Division.
