Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department SWAT takes suspect into custody after standoff
Newman-Newman Police Department and Stanislaus County Sheriff SWAT team took Angel Dominguez, 26 of Newman, into custody after a 5 hour standoff.
At approximately 5:30 this evening Newman Police Department received a call of neighbors fighting in the 1900 block of S St in Newman. The caller stated that one of the subjects was armed with a firearm.
A two man patrol unit went to the residence a short time after. Upon arrival they located Angel Dominguez in his front yard, armed with a firearm. Dominguez pointed the firearm at the officers as they exited their vehicle. As the officers took cover Dominguez ran into his residence, and no gunshots were fired by law enforcement or the suspect.
Newman Police Department requested assistance and Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department responded and a perimeter was set up. After several attempts to contact the suspect the Stanislaus Sheriff's Department SWAT team and Hostage Negotiation Team was activated.
Dominguez has had several contacts with law enforcement in the past and is currently on probation for possession of drugs and domestic violence.
After just over 5 hours, Dominguez came out the rear of the residence and surrendered to SWAT officers.
Both departments were very happy the incident ended peacefully.
Dominguez was booked for brandishing a firearm at a peace officer, violation of probation, and felon in possession of a firearm.
