Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a male juvenile on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at approximately 6:10 PM, in the 1300 block of Chester Avenue, Compton.

Detectives have learned that moments before the shooting, the 17-year-old victim was walking with friends on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of Chester Avenue when they were approached by two male suspects walking from the opposite direction. As the two suspects drew near, one of them pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the victim and shot him in the torso.

The suspects fled the scene on foot.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim is not known to be a gang member.
