Felony Hit and Run Arrest

On July 30, 2013 at approximately 6:25 PM, Santa Rosa Police Officers responded to a hit and run collision in the area of Jennings Avenue and Eardley Avenue. Upon arrival, Officers found a bicyclist suffering from several broken bones and internal injuries.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a white Volvo S70 sedan. Officers checking the area found the suspect vehicle parked on Cedarwood Drive. Through an investigation, Officers discovered that the vehicle had been in control of Matthew Dewayne Hamilton, a 22 year old Santa Rosa resident, at the time of the collision. Hamilton had abandoned the vehicle, but was contacted by officers walking in the area.

Based on the investigation, the collision was the result of a road rage incident between Hamilton and the cyclist. The cyclist yelled at Hamilton during a near miss collision. Hamilton backed his vehicle up to continue the argument, resulting in the collision.

Hamilton was arrested for felony hit and run and booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
