Probationer Suspected in 2 Rancho Palos Verdes Home Burglaries Arrested by #LASD Lomita #RPV
In the early morning hours of July 13th, 2013, a couple living on the 4800 block of Browndeer Lane, Rancho Palos Verdes, was suddenly awakened by the ominous sound of their garage door opening. The owners of the single family residence realized the only way the garage door could open was from inside their home or by someone activating the remote control from within their vehicles. The astute husband peered cautiously out the window of the home and saw a strange male prowling within his garage. The resident yelled, startling the burglar, causing the unwanted thief to flee from the location.
Minutes later, after the victims called 911, deputies on patrol observed a white van driving slowly from the quiet neighborhood. Deputies from Lomita Sheriff’s Station stopped the suspicious vehicle and discovered the driver, Michael Drew, a 45 year-old Long Beach resident, was driving without a license and on active probation for Receiving Stolen Property. A search of the suspect’s van revealed stolen property from the Browndeer address. Further follow-up conducted by detectives, revealed additional stolen property within the van.
Detectives recovered a “Garmin” GPS watch and a “Nike” sport watch linked to an additional auto burglary that occurred near the 27400 Block of Elmbridge Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes. Due to the outstanding investigative work by patrol personnel and detectives, the stolen property was returned to each of the owners.
This case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Torrance Superior Court, for filing. Two counts of Vehicle Burglary and one count of Residential Burglary were filed against Suspect Drew. Additional charges are pending and the suspect is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail. The preliminary hearing will be held July 31st, 2013, at Torrance Superior Court.
